Housing Choice Vouchers
The Housing Choice Voucher program is a rental assistance program allowing eligible individuals and families to secure decent, safe, and affordable housing in the private marketplace. Our vouchers can be used locally in the Cheboygan Area School District (City of Cheboygan and surrounding townships with 49721 zip code).
“Low-income” applicants, earning 80% or less of the area average median income living or working Cheboygan may apply. Please be sure to claim preference designation if any of the below are applicable to you:
- You are a veteran
- You are disabled
- You are age 62 or older
- You have been employed at least (30) days
- If you are displaced
Payment Standards represent the maximum contract rent the housing authority can work with in the housing choice voucher program. Each housing assistance payment contract is prescreened to ensure affordability for assisted tenants based on gross annual income available to the individual/family, contract rent, and utilities that are tenant responsibility. If a unit is not affordable, the housing authority may ask an owner to negotiate to ensure affordability and prevent rent burden for low income households.
